Research data can be stored and made available through major national or international repositories. Research funding agencies and scientific publishers are increasingly expecting researchers to deposit the research data needed to validate the results presented in the open access published scientific articles.
The Academy of Finland recommends, for example, the following repositories:
The Finnish Social Science Data Archive (FSD) Despite its name, the FSD does accept data in the fields of medicine and the humanities as well (where possible).
the FIN-CLARIN consortium FIN-CLARIN is based at the University of Helsinki and is focused on linguistic data.
CSC, the IT Center for Science, has opened three services for data management and open data. The CSC’s IDA Storage Service offers data storage opportunities for Academy-funded researchers. The CSC’s Etsin research data finder is the preferred storage location for metadata, regardless of where the actual research data are stored. CSC’s AVAA open-access publishing platform offers applications for the use of open access data.
In addition, and alternatively, the Academy recommends the CERN’s Zenodo service as a service for sharing and storing research results.
Aalto University has confirmed a research data management policy, which defines the principles used in the opening of publicly funded scientific research data. The goal is to make the material compatible as well as easy to find, reach and understand. The metadata catalogue and the digital infrastructure will be implemented in cooperation with national and international actors, such as CSC – IT Centre for Science and European research data service provider EUDAT.
